It is with great sorrow that The Espionage\nResearch Institute International (ERII) reports today on the passing of our esteemed\ncolleague, ERII Advisory Board Member Steve Whitehead of South Africa. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Steve\u2019s contributions in the fields of TSCM,\nCyber TSCM, counterespionage and counterintelligence in South Africa were both\nsignificant and outstanding. As well, his contributions as a longtime member of\nERII and trusted ERII Advisory Board Member had both a remarkable and substantially\npositive impact on the global TSCM community. Steve\u2019s knowledge and commitment\nto his craft, and the betterment of the TSCM community as a whole, were evident.\nSteve was the \u201cconsummate professional,\u201d a respected leader in the TSCM\/CYBER\nTSCM community, and a man of honor and integrity. Steve will be truly missed, and\nfondly remembered, by his family, friends and colleagues. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n So long my friend. Corporate\nBusiness Insight & Awareness (CBIA<\/strong>) is a small\nboutique firm that was founded during March 1994 by likeminded professionals\nwith diverse inter-disciplinary competencies to provide insight and awareness\nsolutions through the use of CI and counterintelligence as risk management\ntools to corporations in South Africa. CBIA has its own TSCM\ndivision, Eavesdropping Detection Solutions<\/strong>\u00ae.\nSteve has played a major role in the development and promotion of the use of\ncompetitive intelligence (CI) and counterintelligence as a risk management\ntool. He is one of the most experienced consultants in this unique field in the\nWorld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Steve is a member of Strategic and Competitive Intelligence\nProfessionals (SCIP) (USA), a founding and former executive member of the South\nAfrican Association of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SAACIP). He is\nthe chairperson of Business Espionage Countermeasures South Africa (BECSA), a\ncounterespionage association. He served as the ASIS International, Johannesburg\n(chapter 155) chairman from 2004 \u2013 2007. He was a nominee for the 2005 SCIP\nBoard of Directors and the recipient of two SAACIP awards; the SAACIP \u2018Meritorious Award\u2019 <\/em>(1st<\/sup> Recipient) and the SAACIP \u2018Certificate of Merit\u2019<\/em> for his contributions to\nthe development of competitive intelligence and business counterintelligence as\nrisk management tools in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Steve has recently been appointed\nas a consultant to the BRICS Expert Advisory Group on Cybersecurity to the\nSouth African government. Steve is considered to be the \u201cfather\u201d of TSCM\n(technical surveillance countermeasures) in South Africa. He founded TSCM\nServices\u00ae in 1996. TSCM Services through its approach, various offerings and\ntraining courses brought respectability to the private TSCM industry in South\nAfrica. He founded the Countermeasures Association of South Africa (CASA) in\n2000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Steve is a former senior\nGovernment intelligence specialist and held the rank of Manager (Director) in\nthe South African National Intelligence Agency (NIA) when he resigned in March\n1994.
