The Espionage Research Institute International (ERII) was formed by J.D. LeaSure in 2011, shortly after the passing of Glenn H. Whidden. Mr. Whidden was the Director of the Espionage Research Institute (ERI), a 28-year veteran of The Central Intelligence Agency and a seasoned expert in the field of Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM).
Mr. Whidden’s passing, and the subsequent disbanding of ERI, inspired Mr. LeaSure to reorganize a new TSCM organization to serve the global TSCM community of experts.
The mission of the Espionage Research Institute International is to educate and advance best practices in the counterespionage/counterintelligence, and TSCM community through excellence, applied learning, and research that examines issues of strategic importance to the sector.
The aim of ERII is to ensure the skill sets and the knowledge of TSCM, Counterintelligence and Counterespionage professionals evolves as changes in spying tactics, eavesdropping devices and detection methods occur. The organization’s success is a collaborative effort of members from around the globe with expertise in various areas within the umbrella of counterintelligence and TSCM.
The membership of ERII consists of counterespionage/counterintelligence professionals, Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) practitioners, business and corporate executives who have security responsibilities, as well as newcomers to the profession. “Technical Surveillance Counter Measures” is the industry term for security work that includes debugging sweeps, wiretap detection, and related countersurveillance activities.
